Video Bible Study (Genesis, Part 2)

What can you learn about God from Genesis? Who are the main characters in the book? What does the book teach about faith?

Many of those questions are answered in this week's video broadcast. This one had its technical challenges, so fast forward through the first 5 minutes and you'll skip the awkward moments--I guess my computer doesn't like waking up early on Saturdays!

This week's Bible study will review of Genesis 18-50.  We focus on the characters of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph and look at a God who is determined to complete his mission of salvation. If you missed the broadcast, you can watch it  below.

I just wrapped up our Saturday video broadcast. Great to see so many new and old friends.

The Responsibility of Restoring Relationships

“If you … remember that your brother has something against you … go and be reconciled to your brother …” Matthew 5:23–24

Forgiveness from God coupled with responsibility toward the other person are key to restoring relationships. In Jesus’ eyes, those broken relationships are always our responsibility. If someone has something against us, he calls us to go and make it right (see Matthew 5:23–24). If we have something against another, we’re responsible to take the initiative to settle our differences with them (see Matthew 18:15). It’s not often comfortable, but it’s often the right thing to do. Do whatever it takes to restore the relationship. Do it because it pleases God and because your relationships will be richer for it.

Show Kindness

God extends kindness to us although we do not deserve of it. In the same way, we are called to reflect God’s kindness to others, regardless of how they choose to respond.

Don’t wait for a crisis to extend loving-kindness to others. Take the time to ponder who is suffering from a recent heartbreak. Maybe they could use a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. Who feels discouraged in your circle of friends? Maybe they need to hear an encouraging word. Who might feel alone? Perhaps you could pick up the phone and tell them that you care. Be faithful to do your part and watch God’s encouragement work in their lives.

Thought to focus on today: Restore.

God Is: Powerful Sustainer

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

The first words in the Bible are, “In the beginning God.” While we might not understand all the intricate details and secrets of life, we can hold on to this: God set the universe in motion and sustains it. Paul wrote, “He is before all things, and in [Jesus Christ] all things hold together” (Colossians 1:17). Nothing is too hard for God. (See Jeremiah 32:17.)

Are you going through a difficult situation in your life right now? Are there circumstances that you cannot understand? Instead of trying to fix it or control it, rather than trying to figure out the what, when, where and why of your struggle, focus instead on God your sustainer.

▪ What circumstances do you face that only God can change? 

▪ Do you trust him to do that? 

▪ Do you have trouble believing that nothing is too difficult for God?
